StreetVet Brighton

Launched in 2017, Brighton was StreetVet's second outreach location in the UK. Volunteer vets, vet nurses and support volunteers all work together to bring StreetVet’s vital work to the local community. The team provides free accessible veterinary care to the pets of those experiencing homelessness in Brighton.

The StreetVet Brighton team, supported by StreetVet's Clinical and Volunteer teams,  work closely to deliver a monthly outreach clinic in the heart of the local community.

Through consistent, compassionate veterinary care and support, the team helps protect the vital human–animal bond, enabling those experiencing homelessness with their pets stay together across Brighton, accessing support when they need it most.

Volunteers at each outreach location work collaboratively, sharing leadership, tasks, and responsibilities across administration and service delivery to ensure the outreach runs smoothly.

StreetVet Brighton

Each StreetVet outreach team delivers free accessible veterinary care directly into the community. Outreach clinics are held on the streets, in hostels or other homelessness support facilities. Our teams of volunteers take the practice to the pavement, meeting people and pets where they are.

Anything that can be done in a consulting room, our volunteer vets and vet nurses can do at an outreach clinic, helping remove barriers to care while building trust and continuity.

At each outreach clinic, teams may provide:

  • Full health checks and clinical assessments

  • Vaccinations and microchipping

  • Preventative treatments, including flea, worm and parasite control

  • Diagnosis and treatment of illness or injury

  • Dispensing medications and providing follow‑up care

  • Blood sampling, urine testing and basic diagnostic procedures

  • Sampling and monitoring of lumps or wounds

  • Advice, guidance and education to support responsible pet care and ownership

  • Provision of daily pet essentials, including food, coats, collars, leads and toys

  • This outreach based approach ensures pets receive the care they need, in a trusted environment, supporting the wellbeing of both animals and their owners

StreetVet Brighton in action

When it comes to regular outreaches we run a monthly clinic in the heart of Brighton, and the team also carries out hostel visits when needed.

The team works closely with their local community and regularly take part in local events such as Brighton Pride.  They also love to get involved with our Fundraising Advocate, Hercule Van Wolfwinkle, who is based not too far away, when he does any fundraising activities for StreetVet.

Our StreetVet Brighton volunteers share different roles between them from team lead, to organising volunteers to deliver an outreach clinic, to capturing content for social media updates, to stock control for any medication and food, as well as keeping the teams Amazon wishlist up to date for items needed locally.
